so i've been into crosswords lately. like a lot. so much so that i decided to make my own crossword puzzle. and also a contest!!!

the rules of the contest are as follows:

1) print out the puzzle
2) do the puzzle
3) give it to me or slide it under the door of the lab, neb 141 OR
scan it and email the pic it to me at --> esperanto at jhu dot edu

scoring will be based on order of correct submission

1st place: 8 extra points
2nd place: 5 extra points
3rd place: 3 extra points
4th place: 2 extra points
5th place: 1 extra point

just for finishing the puzzle correctly, you get 3 points.
if you have any squares wrong, i'll email you back asap and tell you to fix it. only completely correct puzzles will earn points.

in addition, the first person to finish the puzzle will have his or her name somewhere in the next puzzle. JOY!

the contest will last for 10 weeks, with one puzzle every week. the puzzles will go up on wednesday afternoons.

NOTE: this week's puzzle is my first attempt at crosswording. i also designed it for people in lab. therefore it has some lab-type words in it that you'll probably not know. therefore for this week i am allowing up to three (3) hints (read: answers) via aim.
