bookmarks, or websites i spend way too much time on

on mactooth, i use firefox. i've never really been too into bookmarks, or "favorites" as they're known on internet explorer, but i've found that i visit some websites so often that it's really nice to just click and be there. here's my bookmarks toolbar:

Google: the world's best search engine. it's even got it's own verb. do you have your own verb? i didn't think so. maybe i'll have my own verb someday. what do you think "manselling" will be? it will probably involve spilling beer onn somebody at this rate.

Gmail: 2 point something gigs of email space holds a lot of spam. i pretty much use gmail exclusively, all my mail routes there. i also like google calendar, though i'm not really organized enough to take full advantage of it.

Google Scholar: is better than PubMed for finding citations. it's got all the handiness of google, with the ability to copy and paste full citations right into endnote or BibTeX. it's nice.

Fark: the internet's best source for not news. this is where i read all my news. to me, if it's not on fark, it did not happen. find me in the forums as resnet_pimp.

Wikipedia: the open-source library of the internet. mostly i use this when i'm bored and want to click on random article for about an hour. it's surprising what you can learn. also, as mentioned previously, there is wikipedia in esperanto. it's fun to hit random article on there and see if i can figure out what they're talking about.

Cornell: the official cornell website. useful for stalking people by their netID's.

fantasy baseball: home of Team Mantooth, which is in 9th place out of 10. not bad for never changing anything the whole season. i thought i would be interested enough to keep up with it, but not having an mlb team right down the street has had its effects on me, i think.

toothpaste for dinner: a daily-updated webcomic, simple and hilarious.

Dueling Analogs: a webcomic about video game characters. yes, i know. it's funny though. mondays and wednesdays.

dinosaur comics: this is my favorite webcomic by far. basically three dinosaurs discuss things, and hilarity ensues. it relies heavily on dialogue, since the drawings are the exact same 6 panels every single day. proof that you don't have to be able to draw to have an awesome webcomic. topics of discussion range from prescriptive vs. descriptive language to logical fallacies to knockers. something i look forward to every day.

married to the sea: a webcomic by drew from toothpaste for dinner and natalie dee. old timey pictures given hilarious dialogue.

natalie dee: not as good as TFD and MttS. pretty non sequitur, but i visit it every day, so it can't be that bad.

ytmnd: you're the man now, dog! one of my favorite sites. i spend a minimum of 20 minutes on here every day. it's an art form all its own. i'll leave you to check it out for yourself. search my favorites to see some of the best ytmnd's.

SomaFM: internet radio for working times. mostly down-tempo electronic stuff, with some loungy and funky stuff thrown in. my favorites are secret agent, groove salad, illinois street lounge, and apace station soma.

PublicRadioFan.com: is a list of what's playing on public radio stations with internet feeds across the country. helps me find echoes when i'm in the mood.

Dictionary.com: an invaluable lexicographical resource.

NEB Enzyme Finder: you got DNA to cut? NEB enzyme finder will find enzymes by cut site or DNA sequence. useful for designing primers.

IDT Oligo Analyzer: type the DNA sequence, it'll give you the melting temperature and other vital statistics.

BLAST: compare DNA sequences of two constructs. useful for comparing sequencing results (crap) to real sequences.

BRC: the Cornell Biotechnology Resource Center: where the sequences come from.

snackpants boards: the newest addition to my bookmarks is the message board for the snackpants crew, i.e. brian's friends from kutztown. i've only ever met a few of them in person. still a fun place to hang and tell dead baby jokes. username: billymays.

blog: right here, baby.

wow, that was kind of a boring entry. well, it's done now. you can get on with your life. or do what i do all day and click on all the links. i think i have internet poisoning.
