hazy week (so many reasons)

kiel (mi fartas): ouchy in my arm

kie (mi estas): the crizzle

kio (sonanta): stereolab : how to play your internal organs

inspired by esperanto correlatives, you will see my new status system.  esperanto is neat because it's very structured and one of the more interesting things about it (i think) is its system of correlatives.  check them out here.  if you don't feel like clicking the link here's a brief summary.

there are two parts to a correlative, the prefix and the suffix.  the prefixes all correspond to general themes: e.g. ki- is "what"  ti- is "that" cxi- is "every", etc.  and the suffixes answer the question : e.g. -o is "thing", -el is "manner", -al is "reason".  so, if you wanted to say "why" it would be "kial" as in "what reason".  "everything" would be "cxio" (pronounced "chee-o"  the c is actually supposed to have a little hat on it, but since there is little font support for esperanto letters, people generally use an x or an h after the letter to denote the hat.

and THAT is your fact of the day.

so i haven't made an entry in over a week, but i do have good reasons for not doing so.  here;s a rundown of my week.

monday july 1: did nothing.  i mean nothing of any importance at all.  in fact, had i not gone to the lab and continued my inoculum (dumped some of it in a different test tube) i would have had NEGATIVE productvity.  brandon wasn't at work all week cause of the national resnet conference at the university of buffalo (talk about a geek's paradise) and there was really nothing to do at resnet anyway since, you know, we hired a new student and 2 new interns over the summer and there was hardly enough work for one person.

tuesday july 2: i honestly don't remember what i did on tuesday.  at all.  it couldn't have been that important.  oh wait, now i remember.  i started 4 midi-preps.  those things suck ass.  i have 500 mL of lb broth in this bigazz 2 liter flask.  there were only 4 flasks around and i need to do 5 midi-preps.  sooooo, i had tyo just start those 4 and then at night dump the previous day's inocula into the 4 flasks.  that's all i did tuesday.

wednesday july 3:  was a busy day. we had journal club, then i did those 4 midi preps.  typically one of them takes about 2 hours, but i managed to cram all 4 into 6 hours.  then i went home and made tacos.  around 11:30 we were watching the tonight show and i just assumed that the night was over. so then pete's all ehhh i wanna drink (since it was a holiday the next day).   so patty came over (sarah's friend, i know her from governor's school) and so did the french.  we eventually obtained a good amount of c2h5oh and the debauchery began.  i myself drank a whole bottle of wine (the last time i did that was canada, and we all know what happened then) PLUS 3 beers and 2 shots.  yeah.  so the next day really really sucked.

thursday july 4 (independence day): yeah, so due to circumstances on wednesday, this day got off to a very late start.   wine does not treat you well the next day.  remember that, kids.  so i had a headache til about 6:30, then ate some bbq'ed meat.  that kinda made me feel better.  later on we went over to 302, where the fabled KEG lay.  yes, heather and dave got a HALF BARREL of YUENGLING LAGER.  of course i couldn't resist.  had a few, played a little beirut.  sarah came over with some of her cty buddies.   now, if you didn't know, sarah is very good at beirut.  she carried me thru three matches, the last of which ended in a double overtime heartbreaker.  but i had a tour the next day at twelve so i had to curb my celebrating.  (my liver thanks me).

friday july 5: so the previous night i was all about setting up our ping pong table and making this place the beirut place to be.  well we did that, but everybody was all ehhhhh  so nobody came over.  however, around 1, sam and mowry came over and recruited some of us to take on the keg with some more beirut up at 302.  so we had like a mini tournament.  then social play afterwards.  the french really got pété.  but apparently he was feeling okay the next matin.

saturday july 6: target run.  i was supposed to go to sheena's graduation party on saturday, but i had a tour at 12 and i had sunday tours at 2 and 3.  did i mention that in the past week or so it has been WICKED HOT here?  it was like 100 on the fourth.  and it felt like 106.  that sucked (and didn't help my subsequent hangovers). anyway, so since i didn't go home, pete and i went out and spent money.  a lot.  like $80 at target and $80 at bj's.   yeah.  all house stuff, most of it necessary, groceries and such.  greg went along and then came back here and we used the ping pong table for its intended purpose.  that night, pete and i decided to try our hand at some chicken cordon bleu.  well, we got some chicken and ham and cheese, rolled it up, breaded it, and put it in the oven until the chicken was done.  man it was so good. i was really impressed with us.  cooking is fun, but i had to do the dishes :P.  also that day i bought hair dye at target.

it;s a bit redder than that.  the colour was on sale, but it was the one i wanted anyway :)

sunday july 7: slept thru church.  again.  i suck.  then did my tours at 2 and 3, with a group of hellians.  although it wasn't as bad as last week's sunday group, they still weren't interested.  so i blew my voice out yelling for my tour, started another inoculum at the lab, then headed for home.  pennsylvania, that is.  i had a doctor's appt monday at 11.  so i drove home, then like started making plans to see all these people (since i was only gonna be home for one day), and my parents were all ehhhh about it.  they think i'm either mad at them, or i don't like them or ehhhhh cause i never come home.  well i couldn't come home any weekends cause of the play, and the first chance i got, i was home.  so they're very ehhh about me going to see barrett and andrea this weekend. i had planned on driving up to new england and spending a night with each of them.  i don't think it's gonna fly though.  grr.   so i didn't end up doing anything that night. erik and brian came over and we talked for a little while, but not much else.

monday july 8: had a physical.  got a tetanus shot (which explains the ouchy in the arm).  tetanus shots are given intramuscularly, so it really hurts the next day.  got the doctor to sign le certificat medical, which was, of course, all in french.  i need this for sailing camp, by the way.  so anyway, i gave him a rudimentary translation and he signed it so everything's cool.  then my mom and i went shopping and spent more money.  i made a few impulse buys for the house, like ....an ice shaver....and a candle... and a novelty inflatable bottle of yuengling lager.  yeah.  then i came home.  now monday was sarah's day off from cty and she gets one a session.  so it figures that that day i have a physical and am guilt tripped into staying home about 6 hours longer than i planned.  grr.  so i got back around 10 and sarah and i hung out for a little bit.  that's it, pretty much.

tuesday july 9: didn't do that much today.  i went into the resnet office but there was really nothing to do.  i started another inoculum, since the last 3 have gone to waste.  that should be done around 11 tonight, then i'll dump it in so i can start my midi prep tonight.

i am going to run today.  serious.  if you read this, i want you to aske me every night if i went running that day.  and if i say no i want you to guilt trip me.  cause i really have no excuse not to. i'm white as a ghost and i'm gettin fat, so why not run?

might do a little updating on the webpage today too.  watch out for that.
