mental notes concert last night went pretty well. the denison guys slept over here. 10 people total, all on couches. amazing. well, we are couch-sitting one this summer, but it pulls out into a bed. awesome.
classes are over, so three more finals (and a paper revision [read: rewrite]) and i'll be a senior. scary. i'll be in baltimore over the summer working full time in the lab. this is a good thing i think. going back and forth between jobs really didn't allow me to get anything done. i love summer. it's just like intersession: college with no classes. work ends, and all labor for the day is done. no homework or projects looming overhead or grades to worry about. a good and bad thing is the lack of extracurricular activities (excepting south pacific, which starts sat. may 31 and goes weekends until the end of june).
from the obvious headlines dept.: SARS Has Bad Effect on Chinese Economy
sars. yeah. sure it's bad. 250 people have died from it so far, with thousands of cases reported worldwide. however, 36,000 in the US died from THE FLU last year. just putting things in perspective. i think the main reason everybody's crapping his pants about it is that it's something weird and unknown that appeared out of the blue.

everybody and his mom has a weblog nowadays (even democratic presidential candidate howard dean .. i don't update mine very often anymore partially because of time constraints and partially because i've realized that the quotidian events of my life are not all that interesting. now the events of dave klein's life, that's some interesting shit right there.
yes, i am aware of the irony of decrying weblogs in a weblog. and i'm not disparaging bloggers, nobody said that what they're writing is intended for anyone else, anyway (though this brings in the question of why one would publish it in the first place). see, in a weblog, you never really know the audience. and you kind of have to be careful about what you say, cause you never know who will read it. i guess this sort of necessitates being cryptic. i'm not saying anything one way or the other, just getting this little observation out in the open.
finally, from the little-known facts department: "when the articles of confederation were adopted as the governing instrument of the former british colonies after the revolutionary war, the british colony of canada was invited to become a member of the confederation, the only colony outside the original thirteen that was invited to do so. she decided not to become part of the new nation" from isaac asimov's book of facts: a very good buy from spring fair at $3, or 1/10 of a cent per fact.
this weekend is hopkins' homecoming weekend, so the lacrosse game is going to be PACKED. i think i'll still go anyway. then it's off to jekyll. i'm playing the bishop of basingstoke this weekend, so i'm the first to die. fun. perhaps i ought to give back the big cap'n crunch hat and boots that i borrowed this weekend in order to be a pirate at the mental notes concert.
ed: i just hate blogs that are so incredibly cryptic, or only addressed to one nameless person. -9/5/06
