catastrophe averted... for now

kiel: mi fartas bono, dankon.
kie: laboratorio
kio: listo agento sekreta (kanto titolata: "prince charles' latest affair")

these titles brought to you by esperanto, the international language.

while i do agree that my last entry was self-serving and egotistical, i have no apologies for it. so screw you and i'm awesome.

lots of new things going on here in 2004.

firstly, i got a new car. the 97 hyundai elantra with 73,000 miles has been replaced with a 98 elantra with 49,000 miles and a cd player, for just about the same amount of money as the check the insurance company cut me for the last car. nice. big thanks to my mom, whose tendency to be obsessed over something for weeks on end finally delivered in finding this gem.

nextly, i turned 21 on january 10. and let me say, your 21st birthday really is the only birthday where you actually feel different. i mean, yes, when i turned 16 i could go get my driver's license (i failed the test the first time so i didn't end up getting it until i was 16 and a half. stupid parallel stupid parking and stupid fatass instructor man in his dumbass bill cosby sweater with dorito crumbs on it.) and when i was 18, i could go buy cigarettes, i guess, and pornography (neither of which i have ever bought. well, bought for myself, anyway). but now, now i am free to go anywhere that discriminates on the basis of age. i can walk into a bar and order a beer and drink it right there in front of the bartender with a smile on my face. i can rent a car, i can get a hotel room, whatever. the possibilities are limitless. i might add that since this time i have been taking full advantage of these new-found powers and spending an awful lot of money doing it. on my birthday my parents took me out to howl at the moon, which, if you are unfamiliar with it, is a piano bar down at power plant live! (note the extraneous exclamation point, which as i've discusses before is all too prevalent in our society). now you might be thinking: "parents? on your 21st? bummer..." not so, not so. turns out my mom can do shots with the best of them and my dad can flip guys off and be just as foul-mouthed as any 20-something. awesome time. again, thanks to my parents, who i hope never read this weblog ever.

hmm. i guess that's about it for 2004 happenings so far. well, that was two things. and it's better than nothing. intersession rules. i've been sleeping til like 1 every day, maybe (if i feel like it) going into lab for a few hours, sometimes going to sfanw rehearsal, and then drinking the night away with pete and coleman, all to relive it once more the next day. oh, and the occasional weblog update.

oh, and the "catastrophe" referred to in the title was sarek (the server that hosts my weblog, and our house quake server) almost dying and then being mounted wrong and fixed again. thanks raj.
