give my my tuition back, you bitch

feelin': bored

now playin': nothing, in the resnet office again.

i've been sitting here for about 3 hours with absolutely nothing to do.  however, i am getting paid for it, so whatever.  we were supposed to be in the machine room today pulling up more cables from under the floor (oh what fun!  there's over 30 years worth of cabling under that floor, dating back from the admin system, the precursor to ethernet.  we even found a water hose under the floor, and when we asked brandon why it was there he said it was because the old mainframes in that room used to be water-cooled!) but there's construction and asbestos and all kinds of other nasty things, so we're out of there for a while.  so as far as my job goes, the next thing is resnet calls.  well there are two in the database right now.  so i called them both, and neither person was home.  what i need to do is go to the lab so i can do stuff, but i gotta get the hours in here first.  so i'll add to my weblog :).

i could be doing port jack maps and surveys, but last i checked it was raining to beat the band out there (i got soaked after journal club walking about 500 feet) and i can't drive the golf cart.  oh man i wish i could though.  heck i'd work for free if i could drive that thing all day.

so anyway, lab stuff is going well.  my pcr went well, i got a nice gel off of it, and a good dna concentration. same with the plasmid DNA.  basically my project right now is to put one strand of DNA (beta-lactamase protein producer) into a blank plasmid.  it's just to get me accustomed to lab methods, etc.  realtively simple now.  i will, however, be inheriting a project from nick, (the lab delinquent, even more than me!) who graduated.  i don't quite know what the project is, but it will be all my own, so that's good, isn't it?  it's a good thing i'm taking biochem next semester or i'd be so screwed in this research thing.

well i think i killed enough time.  off to the lab.

ed: that summer i probably made about $1000 doing absolutely nothing. i played all the way through final fantasy ii and halfway through final fantasy iii on an SNES emulator. -9/5/06
